Meet The Founder
NIA Roots is a 501c (3) nonprofit establish by an African adoptee for Interracial adoptees to supportive community for African adoptees, provide access to Trauma-inform Therapy. Fostering connection empowering them to to heritage and identity through shared experiences and resources.
Growing up as a West African, Liberian child, Adoption found me at age 14 while living at the Hannah B. Williams orphanage home in Monrovia. I was adopted to a family that found me but didn't know how to accept all of me, the parts of my early traumatic life that they were never preview to before i came to their family.
Adopted into an interracial family Living in Montana with less exposure to my name, or tools to cultivate cultural, or encourage to my identity with access to Mental Health therapy or connection ancestry I often felt a deep sense of grief, lost, confusions and disconnection from my heritage, my culture, and even my own identity.
Like so many African interracial adoptees, there often this sense of rootlessness to oneself. I have spend years asking the question that every adoptee often ask themselves, "Who am I" what is my place in this world" "where and to whom to i belong"
I experienced the challenges of navigating life between two worlds, feeling unseen, and longing for a connection to my roots. Seeking access to Trauma-inform Therapy for years. These personal experiences shaped my journey of healing, self-discovery, and the will to create a place where you like me we can all feel belonging through share lived experience as we continue to walk the journeys of healing and seek the essence of who we are or where we belong.
